Electrical Safety Inspections

Electrical Safety Check

Why are Electrical Safety Inspections important to any homeowner?

When buying or selling houses it is advised to arrange Electrical Safety inspections to ensure all electrical is working safely and without issues.

Our electrician will check all electrical wiring, outlets and key electrical components to ensure that there are no faults, outdated wiring, uncovered or exposed wires or overloaded circuits.

Testing all circuits, safety devices, switch gear, light fittings and smoke alarms will allow us to discover any circuit overloads, short circuits or ground faults before it can cause any serious damage.

Electrical Safety Inspections will help to prevent serious or dangerous damage to your home, assets and health.

An Electrical Report may also help you to get a discount / premium reduction with your insurance company.

What are some signs of electrical wear and tear?

  • Regular or constant flickering may indicate issues with faulty wiring, transformer or lamp.

The first step can be to replace the lamp and carefully check for loose or ragged wiring.

If this is the case, turn off the circuit breaker that controls that light and consult with us/electrician.

  • When outlets are being overloaded they will get hot, hum or vibrate, which can potentially lead to a fire.

Make sure you are not exceeding the safety ratings of your outlets and that you have adequate safety protection devices at the switchboard (RCD’s).

  • Halogen and incandescent lights create light through heat, about 90% of the energy used is wasted to generate heat instead of light.

We strongly recommend the switch to LED lights as they do not carry a fire risk due to them not producing a large amount of heat!

  • This can include circuit overload, short circuit or a ground fault and it is often a larger electrical fault.

Contact your service provider to have your breaker box and fuse panel checked. They can tell you if another breaker or upgraded wiring is required for the increase in energy consumption.

While there are easy identifiable signs for electrical issues, scheduling an electrical safety inspection will give you the peace of mind and close the gap on any underlying problems.
